Born and raised in Bogor, West Java, to Indian-Indonesian parents with a rich heritage of Hinduism and Sikhism, Sheryl moved to Bali in 2013 and discovered yoga shortly after arriving. The practice quickly became something more personal than she expected: it led her back to the meditation and mantras her Indian grandfather had taught her as a child, traditions she had carried quietly without quite knowing it. That thread between ancient wisdom and lived experience has shaped everything about how she practises and teaches.
Since then her practice has never stopped growing. She has trained in Iyengar yoga, completed the One Song Teacher Training with Denise Payne and Bex Tyler, the FlyHigh Yoga TT, Acro Yoga TT, Thai Massage training, and SOHATT with Carlos Romero and Daniella Garza. She considers herself fortunate to have met teachers along the way who have seen her for who she truly is and helped her grow into the authentic teacher she aspires to be.
Her focus is on harmonising movement and breath, with a deep passion for alignment, fluidity, flow, and creativity. Through mindful sequencing and breathwork, she aims to create a practice that inspires connection, self-awareness, and inner freedom. For Sheryl, sharing yoga philosophy is not separate from teaching asana: it is the heart of it.
In the ten-plus years she has been part of the PONO team, Sheryl has become one of our most loved teachers. In the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training she covers asana alignment, teaching methodology, Vinyasa, acro yoga, Thai massage, yoga techniques, philosophy, and history. She loves connecting with people, and what keeps drawing her back to teaching is the quality of presence yoga makes possible: the stillness, the breath, the chance to sit with yourself and go a little deeper.
Through mindful movement and breath, we return to the freedom of our true nature.
